At the 2019 AIChE Annual Student Conference in Orlando, Florida on the topic “Evaluation of Solvent Recovery Options for Economic Feasibility through a Superstructure-Based Framework Austin Lehr and Jake Stengel’s effort has earned them 3rd place in Computing and Process Control Undergraduate Poster session.They were also selected among the top 5 in Simulations and Process Control section of the Computing and Systems Technology Division of the AIChE by presenting the topic titled “Systematic Framework for Solvent Recovery, Reuse, and Recycling in Industries (372r)” They were mentored by Dr. K. M. Yenkie, Dr. C. S. Slater, Dr. M. J. Savelski (Chemical Engineering (ChE) Faculty) and Mr. J. D. Chea (ChE Graduate Student). This work is part of the US EPA sponsored project on ‘Roadmap for Solvent Recovery and Reuse in Industries’ through their P2 (Pollution Prevention) program.

Dr. Yenkie was invited to present at the technical session, in honor of Prof. Babatunde (Tune) Ogunnaike, the 2018 Warren K. Lewis Award winner and Distinguished Professor (former Dean of Engineering) at the University of Delaware, to give a talk on her experience working with Prof. Ogunnaike as a postdoctoral researcher prior to joining Rowan University and how the training and mentorship is reflected in her current teaching efforts. The title of her talk was “Enhancement of Chemical Engineering Education through Design Thinking: Integration of Theory and Cyber-Assisted Methods (273f)”.
