Assistant Professor, Tenure Track, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Description:  The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rowan University is seeking dynamic applicants for two tenure track positions at the assistant professor level. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to: teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, guide an active scholarly research program involving both undergraduate and graduate students, obtain funding from competitive external funding agencies and engage in relevant service activities.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of academic and research programs and to contribute to the research community. We are seeking outstanding candidates in the following areas:

1) Water resources engineering with focus on coastal resiliency. We seek candidates with expertise and interest in interdisciplinary research that contributes to enhancing the resilience of urban communities and infrastructure systems to the impacts of coastal natural hazards and climate change. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: (1) urban hydrology, urban/regional water resources management, watershed modeling, urban flood analysis, coastal hydrodynamics, and computational fluid dynamics; (2) modeling of natural hazards, infrastructure systems, risk and resilience assessment in coastal settings; and (3) remote sensing in a coastal engineering context

2) Structural engineering with focus in areas such as SMART infrastructure, structural health monitoring, advanced materials in bridge and other structural applications, novel structural systems, structural dynamics and control, BIM, and soil-structure interaction. 

Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and student mentoring. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain a strongly-funded research program and collaborate, as needed, with multi-disciplinary groups of faculty and professionals, including personnel at the South Jersey Technology Park and/or the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. The successful candidate is also expected to apply innovative teaching techniques and/or conduct research in the scholarship of teaching.

 

Qualifications:  A Ph.D. in civil and/or environmental engineering and a baccalaureate degree from an ABET accredited engineering program (or equivalent) are required. Preference will be given to candidates with professional engineering licenses or the qualifications and experience to apply for a PE license.

Adjunct Positions

The Department of Civil and Environment Engineering is searching for adjuncts who have an interest and expertise in teaching lower and upper division civil and environmental engineering courses. The candidate should possess baccalaureate and master's degrees in engineering, or a related field and should have demonstrated evidence of effective teaching. 

Some areas we may have needs for in the upcoming semesters are: 

  • Basic Engineering courses (e.g., Statics, Solid Mechanics, Surveying, Engineering Graphics, Environmental Engineering (Water & Wastewater Treatment, Fluid Mechanics)
  • Project-based courses (e.g., Senior Design)
  • Upper level and graduate CEE courses in Structures, Transportation, Geotechnical, Water Resources, and Environmental Engineering
