EDUCATION & BACKGROUND Shreekanth Mandayam joined the College of Engineering at Rowan University in the Fall of 1997. Prior to joining the faculty at Rowan , Dr. Mandayam was a Research Associate and Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University , Ames, Iowa. He has held Sabbatical appointments as a Research Consultant for GE-Global Research, John F. Welch Technology Centre in Bangalore, India, and as a Research Associate for The National Academies, at NASA Stennis Space Center, Mississippi.  Dr. Mandayam received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in  Electronics engineering in 1990 from Bangalore University, India. He received his M.S. degree (Electrical engineering) in 1993 and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical engineering (Communications and Signal Processing) in 1996 from Iowa State University.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
AND INTERESTS
Dr. Mandayam’s expertise is in the field of imaging, image processing and multi-sensor data fusion with applications to nondestructive evaluation (NDE). The Imaging and NDE lab, which he directs, supports research in magnetic, ultrasonic, acoustic, optical and X-ray CT imaging; design and development of artificial neural networks; and virtual reality (VR).
Recent research projects include  prediction of pipe-wall intergrity in gas transmission pipelines, 3-D shape characterization of geomaterial aggregates, virtual reality simulation and prototyping of DD(X) destroyer engine rooms, automated segmentation of radiodense tissue in digitized mammograms for predicting breast cancer risk. Research sponsors in the laboratory include the National Science Foundation, US Department of Energy, US Navy, American Cancer Society, ExxonMobil, Thomson Consumer Electronics, etc.

He is a Senior Member of the IEEE ,  and member of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and the Sigma Xi Research Society.
