Harrison Hawkins, Ph.D. candidate advised by Prof. Iman Noshadi, has recently accepted a research internship at Sekisui Chemical in Japan. While Sekisui Chemical is mostly known for being one of Japan’s biggest home builders, in recent years it has expanded its business to include areas of performance polymers, urban infrastructure, and environmental products. Currently, Harrison is working at the companies R&D center in Tsukuba, Japan, conducting research in the area of genetic recombination. He has been living 40 minutes north of Tokyo and states that he has been doing his best to learn the language. “It has been a very rewarding and unique experience that I have greatly enjoyed,” says Harrison.
