DEHub Related Research Expertise:
Professor Spyros Karamanos specializes in structural mechanics and integrity of energy infrastructure systems, with emphasis on steel structural systems (platforms for offshore wind energy), steel pipelines for conveying hydrocarbons (oil, gas), hydrogen and water, and PVP components (liquid storage tanks, pressure vessels and piping). His research and professional interests focus on buckling and fatigue of pipes, vessels and offshore structures using computational (finite element) methods, and key experimental testing. His research has been funded primarily by European research projects, with the participation of European steel and by the steel pipeline industry. He is a professional engineer, registered in Greece. He has published more than 90 papers in refereed journals, and more than 150 papers in national and international conference proceedings. With DEHub, Prof. Karamanos will be exploring the use of digital twins in energy related applications that involve multimodal sensing coupled with real-time and advanced computational methods.
