Digital Engineering
Digital Engineering in DEHub @ Rowan includes a spectrum of existing and emerging tools including model based engineering, digital manufacturing and digital twin development. All of these are active and rapidly developing areas of research and development and we are contributing to advance the related agenda.
An example of how these concepts could be combined is shown in the figure below for the case of metal additive manufacturing. Specifically, our recent work to design metal parts, was recently coupled with associated efforts to create digital twins of the additive manufacturing process which can leverage physics-based and surrogate modeling as well as extensive material characterization to allow improvements of the manufacturing readiness level of advanced engineering alloys.
