The role and use of Agentic AI in Digital Twins

CEO, XMPro
Abstract:
Digital twins are evolving from passive monitoring tools to autonomous decision-making systems through the integration of agentic AI. This presentation explores how intelligent digital twins, powered by multi-agent generative systems, are becoming the cognitive foundation for self-optimizing industrial operations. This transformation is demonstrated through embedding cognitive agents directly into digital twin architectures, enabling autonomous predictive maintenance, adaptive process control, and real-time compliance monitoring at an industrial scale.
Biography:
Pieter van Schalkwyk is CEO and Founder of XMPro, specializing in Multi-Agent Generative Systems (MAGS) for mission-critical industrial operations in manufacturing, energy, mining, and utilities. A leading voice in Digital Twins, decision intelligence, and AI governance, he created the widely adopted Digital Twin Capabilities Periodic Table, the AI Agent Capabilities Periodic Table, and co-authored Building Industrial Digital Twins (Packt, 2021). Pieter chairs key working groups at the Digital Twin Consortium and speaks globally on intelligent digital twins, cognitive AI agents, and the future of industrial operations.
