A Leader in Medical Education
With two medical schools, Rowan University is an important contributor to the future of healthcare in New Jersey and the nation. Rowan co-founded Cooper Medical School at Rowan University with Cooper University Health Care, welcoming the medical school’s inaugural class in Summer 2012. On July 1, 2013, Rowan became one of only two universities in the nation to offer both M.D. and D.O. degree-granting programs with the addition of the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, NJ (formerly the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey). The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Stratford, which grants the Ph.D. and offers a number of master’s, certificates and dual-degree programs, is also now part of Rowan (formerly the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey). Rowan also offers courses for working and aspiring nurses through its Department of Nursing, an academic department in the College of Science and Mathematics that collaborates with Rowan Global to deliver nursing programs online and in face-to-face classes and labs.
The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine will be the first veterinary school in the State of New Jersey. Currently, there are just 33 veterinary schools in the nation and only five on the east coast. With the addition of the veterinary school, Rowan will become the second institution in the nation offering Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degrees. The inaugural class of 60 students are expected in Fall 2025, pending approval from the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education.
The Office of Health Professions is responsible for providing students with the appropriate information and resources to become competitive, well-rounded applicants for one of the various health professional programs. The Office of Health Professions conduct individual and group advising, interactive workshops, and other activities to inform students of their professional school options.
