Engineering in a Global Context: Japan, March 2026
Led by Prof. Forin, this Spring Break in March 2026 tour explores Tokyo and Kyoto, blending cultural, academic, and engineering visits. Students get to experience how Japanese engineering students live and study at Kanagawa University and Shibaura Institute of Technology. Students will see a centuries-old business as well as a cutting-edge robotics company. There is a multitude of engineering wonders to see in Japan. Students have free time at night to explore on their own.
Program Highlights
- Visits to 3 companies
- Cultural immersion across two Japanese cities and surrounding metropolitan area.
- $3200-3600 program cost that includes round-trip travel, accommodations, daily breakfast, 2 dinners and site/visit fees. Based on class size and a generous subsidy by the Rowan University College of Engineering.
Course Requirement
Participants enroll in the 3-credit engineering history course Engineering in a Global Context in Spring 2026. The course examines the history of engineering and its development in 6 countries.
- For engineering majors, it counts as a Rowan Global Core.
- Open to all engineering students of all undergraduate levels.
- The course and trip are linked. One can’t be taken without the other.
Timing and Availability
The class runs every Tuesday and Thursday 3:30-4:45pm.
The trip takes place the Thursday before Spring Break (March 12th 2026) and returns the Monday after Spring Break (March 23rd 2026).
