Biography
Education:

The Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering is pleased to welcome Frank Derby, Ph.D., as the founding director of the survey engineering technology program. Derby earned his doctorate in civil engineering with an emphasis in surveying from the University of Florida and has extensive field experience in land surveying and related disciplines.
In keeping with the college’s hands-on, minds-on approach to undergraduate education, Derby will collaborate with our colleagues at the Rowan College of South Jersey and other academic institutions, the New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors, other industry professionals and government agencies to develop surveying engineering technology as a premier program of excellence to meet the workforce needs of the state of New Jersey and the nation.
Derby has worked professionally in the United States, Tanzania, Peru, the United Kingdom and Dominica. In addition, he has consulted for international agencies including the World Bank and the United Nations. Beyond his industry experience, Derby most recently served as chair and professor in The Pennsylvania State University’s surveying engineering and engineering technology programs, leading both through multiple ABET accreditations.
