My research program focuses on the design and understanding of soft materials—particularly hydrogels and functional polymers—for applications in environmental sustainability, clean energy, and hazard mitigation. We develop thermoresponsive hydrogels for non-evaporative water purification. Our group also explores ion-selective polymer networks for lithium and mineral extraction from brines, and oil–water separation. By integrating principles from polymer physics, phase transition thermodynamics, and transport phenomena, we aim to engineer materials with tunable structure–property relationships and dynamic responsiveness to environmental stimuli.
