ChE faculty receives new NJEDA CSIT R&D Voucher to study pyrolyzed waste bird feather fibers with PKF Materials

Led by Dr. Joe Stanzione, Director of Rowan’s Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Institute (AMMI), AMMI will assist PKF Materials in fundamentally understanding the processing-structure-property relationships of their pyrolyzed fibers from waste chicken feathers, such that they can strategically make informed decisions about their manufacturing processes and applications of their products.

To accomplish this overarching goal, the project will pyrolyze batches of chicken feather fibers (CFFs) with prescribed heating schedules, and leverage AMMI's suite of processing and characterization capabilities to acquire critical data on these materials. Testing will include spectroscopic, microscopic, thermo-mechanical, and thermogravimmetric analyses to derive data for developing the processing-structure-property relationships.

This 12-month project is supported by a $40K CSIT R&D Voucher from the NJEDA. The NJ Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology (CSIT) through its R&D Voucher Program aims to stimulate collaboratios between early-stage companies with universities and government labs.
