EPA Pollution Prevention Regional Grant
EPA Pollution Prevention Regional Grant
Rowan University Chemical Engineering team receives another EPA Pollution Prevention Grant to assist the region
With the support of a $361,816 Pollution Prevention grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a Rowan University Chemical Engineering team aims to improve oil transportation and packaging processes in petroleum pipelines. As the second phase of a prior 2020 grant, this project focuses on the development of an enabling roadmap and associated computational tools for the petroleum, lubes and petrochemical industries for informed decision-making that will lead to enhanced efficiency, and waste minimization in the automotive and chemical sectors. This effort is expected to positively impact industries and sectors in the region as well as nationwide. Led by Dr. Kirti Yenkie with a team of faculty that includes Drs. Robert Hesketh, Mariano Savelski and C. Stewart Slater, the project will engage students, and industry and government partners through Rowan’s unique undergraduate engineering clinics, M.S. and Ph.D. programs.
The Rowan chemical engineering department has been the recipient of ten of these grants since 2005, impacting a broad range of industries in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and petrochemical sectors, making recommendations to modernize industrial facilities towards sustainable manufacturing, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy utilization, material use, hazardous waste generation and cost.
