Rowan’s B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Surveying Engineering Technology programs are currently associated with Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ). Each program is designed to accommodate and expand the College’s A.A.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Surveying Engineering Technology to a full four-year B.S. in Engineering Technology.
Additionally, all of the Engineering Technology programs at Rowan University are currently working on developing flexible curricular structures to provide access to all students with an A.A.S. in one of the Engineering Technology disciplines or similar programs across the State of New Jersey as well as in our Mid-Atlantic region.
If you are interested in transferring into one of Rowan’s B.S Engineering Technology programs, and you are currently enrolled (or graduated) from a different A.A.S. related program, please contact Dr. Frank Derby - derby@rowan.edu, Program Director of the Engineering Technology division for evaluation of your credentials and possible pathways into our program. Due to the nature of the program, applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.Career paths and responsibilities
In their typical careers, engineers apply their innovative and theoretical skills to design and create devices, model and simulate operations that provide solutions to perceived engineering problems, public safety, or address societal needs. Most of their time is spent conceptualizing, developing, simulating, and modeling ideas rather than building devices or systems. Engineering Technologists design simple devices and systems and maintain and ensure their smooth operation. They also consider ways to improve efficiency and performance.
Choosing an Engineering Career
For a successful and satisfying engineering career, prospective students must consider their preferences to be a conceptual designer or a hands-on builder and performance-minded.
The first step to choosing the best degree program for prospective engineer is knowing their strengths and career goals. Understanding the differences between these two engineering careers will help to choose the desired engineering degree. Based on the types and scope of operations in a company, it is not unusual for a company to employ engineering technology graduates as engineers.
