About WaterTALK
WaterTALK is an online experience driven by Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Nowadays, water treatment workers often monitor important equipment remotely. WaterTALK reflects this shift, allowing students to remotely monitor a small-scale water experiment. Students can interact with the experiment remotely to explore acidity, water pollution, and other simple experiments that all give real-time video and sensor data, as if the student were monitoring a real wastewater treatment system.Scenarios
Each scenario is made to convey the importance of different water quality metrics and what they can represent at any given time.Dissolving Salt
Student takes Conductivity measurements after introducing table salt into the water by inserting the sensor probe. In addition, there will be a circuit which will be completed by the water’s ionic compounds which lights a lightbulb.
Red Dye Filtration
Student takes qualitative measurements/observations of water before and after introducing food coloring. Has three stages of intensity (light concentration, medium concentration, larger concentration). Activated Charcoal (Processed Charcoal) can be used to filter out the coloring (Displaying Contaminants).
Sand and TDS
Introduce Sand into tank and measure TDS before and after with three stages of intensity. Fake aquarium plants would help diversity the looks of this experiment.
Acid/Base Neutralization
A pH sensor is dipped in different solutions to measure their acidity or basicness. Note that lower pH corresponds to higher acidity of the solution and likewise that higher pH corresponds to basic solutions.
